Corrections officer identified as victim killed by boyfriend

CLAYTON COUNTY, Ga. — A murder suspect is now in custody after police say he shot his girlfriend and stabbed a police K-9 unit during a manhunt.

On Monday afternoon, police identified the victim as Amber Wilson, 27, an Irwin County detention officer who was the man's estranged girlfriend.

Channel 2 Action News was there as investigators caught up with 31-year-old Randy Young and handcuffed him and put him in a patrol car.

"She has had an incident with him before, and she asked me to call the cops before and I did. And now for this to happen, it's just heartbreaking," a neighbor said.

Police said the shooting happened inside the Brookstone Apartment complex in Clayton County at around 9:30 a.m. Sunday.

According to police, Irwin went to his home with a family member to pick up her personal items.

"It does appear that she was in the process of separating from the relationship. She was attempting to leave," a detective told Channel 2's Christian Jennings.

The family member told police the suspect and the woman got into an argument, and then the suspect shot her several times with a handgun.

Wilson died as a result of her injuries, according to police.
